There used to be a group of New York bike messengers called the X-Men. The X-Men wore a lot of hockey gear—knee and shin guards, chest plates, shoulder pads, and hockey helmets with face masks, as well as Kevlar pants and gloves—real renegade Mad Max type stuff. I think they all rode mountain bikes.
